Treating Trauma Compassionately

My Approach and Background
A Happier, Healthier You
Hello there! My name is Dr Lynda Foulder-Hughes. I am a Private Consultant Psychotherapist. My original (starting point) training was as an Occupational Therapist (OT), qualifying back in 1991. I retired as an OT in 2019 in order to focus solely on my Psychotherapy practice. Occupational Therapy was a firm foundation to my holistic and integrative approach, as it has its origins in the Humanistic, Person-Centred tradition.

I have over 30 years of successful practice experience with adults, young people and children in hospitals, clinics, social care, voluntary organisations, education settings and television.
I provide a compassionate and holistic approach in order to help people recover from past traumas and current emotional difficulties, so that they can move into the future in a positive and hopeful way. Achieving post-traumatic growth (PTG) following treatment, is an important part of my approach. I am a highly empathetic, experienced, and educated professional, who genuinely cares.
I see people either face to face at my practice in Kingsbury Episcopi in South Somerset (see the photo above), or online via Zoom.

I offer a holistic and integrative psychotherapy service. Each person I work with is unique, and no two people are the same. Therefore, there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" approach when I work. I am trained in a number of different psychological modalities, several of which are also core approaches recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence): Person Centred Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), Flash Technique (FT), Rewind trauma therapy, Humanistic Counselling, Meridian Psychotherapy , Mindfulness, Meditation, Shadow work, Inner Child work and Transpersonal Psychology (Metaphysical Sciences).

EMDR is one of the recommended treatment approaches by NICE for people affected by trauma including PTSD https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng116/chapter/recommendations
However Flash Technique is a gentle way of treating trauma, which is proving to be extremely useful at targeting long standing distress (including PTSD and C-PTSD). There is currently ongoing research into the use of Flash Technique for trauma:

I am an accredited member of the UKAHPP which holds PSA regulation. I am fully insured to practice and I receive regular monthly supervision from a fellow experienced supervisor who is also educated to PhD level.
In addition to my clinical work, I am also a published author and researcher of many high impact articles and research papers. My academic work ensures that my practice is evidenced based. My seminal work on working with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (which was published in 1998), continues to be an influential piece of research.
My self-help book "REMIND- The Prescription for Happiness, Success and Fulfilment in Life" can be purchased here:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Remind-Prescription-Happiness-Success-Fulfilment/dp/1398490083

I also helped to develop the hugely successful, twice BAFTA nominated, global children`s television series Tree Fu Tom. I was the specialist series consultant for 10 years and my name is credited on every episode.
